You know the drill, a mommy loves a daddy, they get married and have a baby. Or two… or.. three. Jessica Renee Bauer was born on June 28 to a fairly affluent family. Sure they were no Trumps but they did come from old money. Oil money to be exact. Now, that doesn’t explain why her father is a surgeon and not some big tycoon like his father was. Well… Oil wasn’t really William’s thing. He was bore of the… compassionate type. He wanted to make a difference, not… an environmental hazard. Sure his parents were disappointed but that was life. When he moved to New York he met Everett, a socialite and prima priss-ass. God only knows what attracted them to each other but nine months later along came Sam, the eldest… then Jess and finally Jordan, the youngest.
Jessica almost always grew up in her brother’s shadows. Sam was the brilliant one. Bright, headed right in his dad’s footsteps. And Jordan? Well he was the athlete of the family, the one who knew exactly what he wanted and how to get it. Now where did that leave jess? Sort of… stuck in the middle. Which could explain why, when she received a massive scholarship to George Washington University, she jumped at the chance to leave and move on with her own life.
Now it wasn’t like she had a shitty life or anything tragic happened. Nope, just a bunch of society stuff. Parties… parties… more boring parties…. And that just wasn’t Jess’ scene. She wasn’t into what her mom was. She wanted something exciting, thrilling, something that would keep her on her toes. Which was why, in the middle of her sophomore year, she applied for one of those student-work internships with the CIA, and after a pretty extensive background check and some training, she landed herself a coveted spot among some of the top people in the agency. Jess started out among the lower ranks, shuffling papers, running errands, you know. Typical stuff that starting level interns do.
Eventually she worked her way up the food chain after spending her entire sophomore year, summer, junior year, summer and senior year working in various offices. She held all sorts of entry level positions from intelligence analyst to crime and counternarcotics. It was everything she hoped for and more. During that time, she enrolled in GWU’s Army ROTC Program. Okay, now I know she doesn’t look like the army sort of girl, but you can’t judge. She’s strong willed, passionate, driven… a hard worker. Everything you need in a leader and more. When her mom found out… she was a little less than pleased, which, in all honesty, made Jessica want it even more.
But good things don’t last for long. It was her senior year, her third year in the ROTC program at school and tragedy hit. At a cross country meet, Jess fell and tore her Achilles and shattered her ankle, rendering her all but… well, useless. She was casted for months, went through intense physical therapy only to be told she couldn’t continue and was honorably discharged. It felt like a blow to the chest to be working so hard for something and to just… lose it in one silly mistake. She was angry. Well, more than angry, she was irate with herself. Everything she’d been working double time for the last couple years was tossed out the window. It was almost like her mother won… and Jess wasn’t gonna let that slide.
Her senior year dragged on… and on and on before graduation rolled around. Not long after she had the diploma in her hands was she offered a well paying job at none other than the CIA. She started out as a Crime and Counternarcotics agent, one of the fields she’d dabbled in as an intern but quickly switched to counterterrorism. It gave her more of a hands on feel for the job and well, the casework was pretty awesome too. But the job wasn’t the only thing that kept her attention… there was… someone else.
Erik Kennedy. Georgetown grad and Casanova. He was… well, dangerous. And perfect in Jess’ eyes. It didn’t take long for him to make a move on her… and it took even less time for her to fall head over heels like the big sucker she was. But things didn’t go swell for very long… it was June 4nd. Any other typical Saturday… except it wasn’t. Erik had driven home for the weekend to visit family and was supposed to be on his way back… but he never made it. Early in the morning he was t-boned by a drunk driver, his car totaled and his life lost…
To say that Jess was crushed was an understatement. Nothing could bring her solace. She couldn’t do anything, it was almost as if she was floating around like a big blob of nothing. Talking didn’t help, running didn’t help… working sure didn’t help thought she couldn’t stop going… so she found comfort in the bottom of a bottle. You could say that was when she really started drinking to relieve stress. It started out as nothing really, just a drink here or there to relax… but, like ever other bad habit, it blossomed into something else. Something that would just take her down a dangerous path she never thought she’d find herself on.
It took two hospital trips and a threat of being fired to begin to take her out of this stupor. No, she hasn’t stopped her bad habits, you don’t just pick them up and drop them like a hot potato when you’re done. They stick.. especially ones like these. Anyway, Just a few weeks ago she was sent to New York City with her partner James, to follow and gain information on some organized crime and terrorism taking place. Its dangerous, exciting and just what she needs to really get back into the swing of things.
